the nickname that's stuck for this little girl is "squish"- due mostly to the way she scrunches up when she's mad or when you pick her up and she's sleeping (you know, the little curl-up-in-a-ball thing). "scrunch" just doesn't sound right, so "squish" it is!
i think she looks like a cabbage patch from this angle. i can just hear her in about 16 years: "thanks for the VERY flattering angle, mom... ". but in my defense, dear one, we had to get a good documentation of just how well you could hold your head up at barely 3 weeks!
yes, she's on the kitchen table... it's the only place she's safe from her big brother. not that he'd intentionally harm her, but sometimes the "gentle" factor is missing, ya know? he tries, he really does, and most of the time he does really well about not being too rough with her. not an easy task when you're almost a year and half... so i'd say he's doing great! the latest thing with these two is synchronized crying; really, the second one starts, the other does too, and almost always the same tone. crazy. i think they're in cahoots, trying to see how long they can keep it up before mommy goes out of her gourd. she's close, sometimes... lol. ah well, such is life with two very small ones- it all adds up for a wonderfully, frustratingly beautiful experience! and exhausting... let's not forget that. actually, if it weren't for that stupid bout of gastroenteritis, i'd be pretty perky. yes, it was a few days ago, and no, i still don't have any appetite. hence the extreme tiredness and almost 10-lb weight loss. i'll take the reduced poundage, thank you very much... the rest of it, not so much. and we didn't forget- HAPPY BIRTHDAY to mom/grandma today! hope you have a wonderful day!
also, belated birthday to the other mom/grandma in the family- ruby's was the 6th. glad to have been able to spend a little time with you on saturday! and speaking of saturday, we had a funny run-in with a state trooper. i'm sure almost everyone has heard this by now, but please humor me. saturday evening we went to kelvin's parents for an hour or so for birthday cake (i was up and about, so i figured as long as we didn't stay super long, i should make an effort). we were on hwy 45 just outside of marion, and we got pulled over by a state trooper. we weren't speeding, so we weren't sure what the deal was... it was a lady trooper, and she said "do you know you have a headlight out?". uhhh, no. actually, yes, we knew that. the deer decided we only needed one, will you please take the matter up with him? anyhow, she was super nice and gave us a warning (we don't even have to go show proof of having it fixed, since we have an insurance claim filed on record). we kinda chuckled about it and went on our merry way. a grand total of 1 and a 1/2 hours later, we're on our way home and we get pulled over again. this time kelvin's a bit irked, since we just want to get home and collapse into bed already; the cop comes to our window and guess what? same trooper. she said "where are you going NOW?" kelvin told her that we had been at his parents and now we were trying to go home... she laughed and said "go on, you guys, get outta here!". we laughed the rest of the way home, and i'm pretty sure the trooper giggled about it for awhile too. how embarrassing for her... at least she had a great sense of humor! you know the stigma attached to state troopers? well, if they were all like her, we'd all LOVE state troopers! thanks for letting me share... since our parents and kelvin's coworkers got a good laugh out of it, i figured i'd pass it along too.
