snzxxxx.

that would be the sound of me, snoring. while awake and partially functioning, of course.

see photo below for the cause of this...

thaaaaat's right.

another sleepless night.

it started off great

then it went sour.

yeah.

think: to bed (meaning finally asleep) around 9'ish (bedtime routine is usually in full-swing around 8), then awake and talking to himself at about 2 am. i'm sure he was awake long before that... my guess is that he dozed for an hour or so after he drifted off. the whole ordeal ended around 5 am, after a few hours of me on the floor by his bed. i got to thinking, trying to muddle through the unorganized mess of thoughts in my head (made even more unintelligible from lack of sleep), that maybe he's become sensitive to dairy. last week friday, when he never even went to sleep until about 3.30 am the next morning, he'd had a lot of milk and some yogurt. on saturday he had mostly watered-down juice because we were out and about. he had a few bites of a cheese sandwich for lunch, some homemade cheese pizza for supper and a few bites of ice-cream, but it didn't affect him that night. he had some grilled cheese sandwiches over the past few days and annie's natural shells and white cheddar, but the only thing i can think of is that if he takes in too much dairy, it causes insomnia. i found a little something on a mommy forum about dairy sensitivities causing poor sleep patterns in kids (toddlers too), and some of the cases sounded EXACTLY like cole's. other than that, all i found was add or adhd as a cause of toddler insomnia, and i really doubt that's the case, since he's pretty normal in every other aspect. i don't know- does anyone have any thoughts on this? if anyone has any input, ideas, experiences, what have you (anything!!!), please let me know!

*thanks in advance!*

haha! that's ok... i'd be pretty sympathetic if you DID! we ran out and got more soy milk yesterday, which he seemed to like after taking a taste and giving it a leary look; he had minute amounts of dairy yesterday and is still sleeping (it's quiet, anyway- it'aalmost 7.30), so we'll keep up with this for a week or two and see if it makes any difference! :)

AT the risk of being too opinionated...PLEASE don't feed your child soy! We believe it is terrible for you and your children. Filled with phytoestrogen genistein which causes premature puberty in girls and stunted or absent puberty in boys. A very trusted article on this subject is at www.nogreaterjoy.org (type "soy alert" into the search window)
Also, dairy is so healthful for children, I wouldn't rule it out unless you're absolutly sure he is intolerant. We have read about and know several people who were intolerant of dairy in the pasturized/homogenized form, but can handle dairy wonderfully if it is raw. You can read about the benefits and safety of raw milk at www.westonaprice.org This information has blessed our family! Hope it is helpful to you as well.
P.S. another helpful christian site on nutrition is www.passionatehomemaking.com

thanks megan! i know that it's not good to take in too much soy, so he has a little bit each day and then watered down juice, and so far, he's been sleeping better. personally, i'm very, very leary of raw milk... i've heard of too many people getting sick because of it being tainted or whatnot. when cole gets it all out of his system, then we can start reintroducing it in tiny amounts to build his tolerance. also, there used to be a kinesiologist in the fox valley area, and i think he's still practicing... we might take the kids there to get treated! thanks again, megan :)

Lindsay,
I wrote a lengthy comment back about the safety of raw milk (hoping to reassure you) but decided to erase it all as that might be more annoying than reassuring :)
Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of your family and hoping things go better with your little one! :)

i wouldn't have minded...:) it's just something i personally don't feel safe with. anyway, a friend is getting the name and number of a chiro for me- he practices in neenah and deals alot with allergies and sensitivities, so i'm sure that in the near future we'll be seeing him. i don't know why i didn't think of it till now, but i'm going to get some rice milk and see if cole would drink that instead of the soy. hershey's chocolate syrup is dairy-free, so i can use a pinch of that to flavor it if i need to. wish i would have thought of that before now!! :)
thanks again, megan... we're thinking of you guys too!
