random question:

does anyone else out there feel kinda sad when you hear lullabies? cole's got a fisher-price lullabye cd that we put in last night and tonight... it makes me feel sad when i hear it (which is all night...). maybe because it's so slow and quiet. or maybe because it reminds me of taylor and london... yeah, so i was just curious if it gets to anyone else or if i'm just weird... g'night y'all!

what a crank...

no pics today, sorry! cole has been a total crankypants (figures, since we had quite a weekend), so there was no photo opportunity, except for the crying and tantrums. not really posting material. anyhoo, we survived, and since it's suppertime, the day is almost over, thank goodness. i'm kinda betting that tomorrow will be worse, since it seems that it always takes a day or two for the crabbiness to hit it's peak. at least i am prepared... i will be armed with teething tablets (that's half the problem), an assortment of toys and things (things meaning empty water bottles and junk mail... why these are so amusing to this kid is beyond me), cheerios, gerber puffs, sippy cups, his fuzzy mini-blanket, books... short of narcotics to knock him out (joke!!!), we have quite an arsenal, and hopefully i can have it all together in a bag so i can take it ALL from room to room... hahaha! for those of you STILL taking me seriously, that all was a joke. kind of. the idea is starting to grow on me...
i made potato soup for the first time tonight! i wanted to make chicken noodle soup for kelvin to take over to andy (he came down with mono, poor guy), but didn't have much of what i need for it. be some miracle, i had everything for potato soup though! and banana bread- thanks for the recipe, ashley! it's AWESOME... so andy got some of that too. as do we- not really soup weather, but it still smells so good, we are just having that tonight. yummm!

hilton weekend

we hope everyone had a great fourth of july, saw fireworks, ate too much, had a blast and all that cool stuff! i know we did...
cole wanted to "help" pack. in reality, the packing was done and he was just climbing. that's a new thing for him- he'll have oodles of space to go around something, but he'll try to go through it or over it instead. he took a small tumble off the top of the suitcase, but he was fine. mommy was mean and kept taking pictures, though!

this was the parking at the pointe hilton tapatio cliffs resort. it was really neat! coming toward it, we had never seen the place so we didn't know what we were looking for... we saw what looked like a big mansion tucked into the mountain side and thought it would be a really cool place to live, and then we drove toward it... it was our hotel! instead of one big building, this resort is made up of lots of smaller ones, and the roads around the place are so narrow and winding and it reminds me of italy!!!

cole's new tongue trick... some random guy commented on his "huge tongue". thanks, man!

angela and krista having some fun! i got one picture with brad in it, but all you can see is the back of his head, so i thought it would be a little pointless to even post it. oops.

cole and mommy, at the sunset pool. the sunset was a pretty small pool and teeny spa tub just around the corner from our rooms. it was nice for when we didn't feel like trekking across the grounds to falls water village (the big pools, waterslide and outdoor entertainment). just right for some quiet time in the sun, too!

kimber, cole and krista after a long day of sunshine and water!

tan lines! he's turning into a bronzed adonis... haha! we put sunscreen on cole religiously, but he still got a bit red on his shoulders. doesn't seem to bother him one bit though!

this is after we got home today... the look says exactly what i'm thinking of the unpacking and laundry... "yeah, whatever".
so, we did have a great time! i would really recommend that place to anyone going to the area... they have one bedroom suites (what we had, very spacious- a bedroom, bathroom, living area and sleeper sofa) for $99 a night. it was a little more this weekend because of the holiday, but way worth it! it was so nice to be able to get away and relax; we're tired, but it was so much fun! i'm hoping cole will sleep really well tonight- if he does, we will too!

happy fourth of july!

happy fourth to everyone! i'm missing home a little, since we used to all get together for the fourth (way back when) and in more recent years, the holiday meant just spending time with whoever was around. but... this year brings new friends to spend time with, so that's neat. before too long we will be headed over to maricopa to pick up angie, kimber and krista and then up to phoenix where we'll meet up with brad later. i got everything packed pretty quickly this morning... it's amazing just how much STUFF you take when you have a baby! crazy. we're only going to be gone thru sunday and it seems like we've packed for a month. i'm trying to be really optomistic about how cole will do with the late nights and activity... last night got up once, cried for what seemed like 5 minutes (probably closer to 2 or 3, since everything seems to be longer when it's dark and you're sleepy....) and then slept soundly till about 6.30, so it was a good night! maybe we'll get lucky and he'll do the same thing the next few nights...! and as long as i'm bearing good news, i stepped on the scale this morning, prepared for a shock... shocked i was- i've gained only a pound since getting pregnant! good- i refuse to be a whale through THIS pregnancy... and i'm off to a good start. weird, since to me, it seems like all i do is eat. then again, i do have a little monkey to chase around. anyhoo, hope everyone has a great fourth, stay safe, have fun!!

here s/he is!

so, here is our little sweetpea, as promised. the ultrasound went great (obviously), and we got to see that little heart beating away, and they let us hear it too. heartrate is 162 bpm, just about right, and the ultrasound tech said that everything seemed great as far as she could see. whew! cole was really good during the whole thing- he just stared at the screen on the wall and 'talked' to the baby... it was priceless! kinda cool how they do it here, vs new london- here they have the ultrasound scanner and all, but they also have a tv screen mounted on the wall so you don't have to try to twist your head funny to get a glimpse. pretty cool, i thought! anyway, all is well, so we're pretty happy!

my monkeyshine

i have decided that my son is half-monkey, although i have no idea where he could have gotten that from. it keeps me scratching my head and wondering and at the same time, very amused and sometimes a little peeved. the stuff he gets into...

my monkey-baby in his new jammies, trying desperately to 'help' on the computer. his pj onesie has a monkey on it and it says "just hangin around". how very appropriate. they feel SO comfy, and i really like them because they are the convert-a-foot style, AND they are two-piece! my steal from kmart... oh, and they're green, which is kind of a neutral color, so if this baby is a girl, she can wear them too.

this would be cole 'just hangin around'... i think his days sleeping in the pack-n-play are numbered... we just might have to buy a crib soon. which we'll have to do anyway...

kelvin had to run down to tuscon yesterday in the late afternoon, but before he did, he took a quick snooze. and since cole hadn't had his afternoon nap either, they sacked out together. this is how cole fell asleep- usually he's quite anal about how he's positioned when he's trying to doze off, but maybe he's learning to be more flexible. no pun intended. and speaking of cole and sleep, last night he stayed in his own bed all night! he was up and crying for about 15 minutes, then muttered to himself for about a half hour and then he was out until just after 6 am. that's more normal, buddy! i had to get up to make a bathroom run, so of course, that's what prompted the intense crying, but he survived. i laid on the floor until i was positive that he was asleep, because the bed is so noisy. it's an air mattress, so the sides creak when they move (it's up against the wall) and the loudest thing about it is the memory foam top- it really creaks! i didn't have a choice with this one- it's the replacement they sent me for the first one, which i really liked because it had a headboard and was a little bit wider. i may look for another brand of queen air mattress to use for it, since the outter frame and headboard are still in good condition. it was quieter, i really liked that. but this one is comfy too, and a little taller (by a whole 6 inches), which will be really great if we're still here by the time i am ginormously round!
